For the passed few weeks, a certain chipper blonde pain in the ass has been "reminding" everyone on the swim team of a very, very, very important date quickly approaching on the 1st of August. He remained aloof as to telling them what the special occasion was until the day before - his birthday. Immediately, one of his long-time friends (and an avid lover of parties and birthdays) thought up the brilliant idea to throw him a birthday party at Haru's house.
(She literally gave the boy no choice and forced her way into his house to set up the decorations later that evening, even though the actual party wasn't until the next day.)
Given the incredibly short notice, Rei, Gou (Kou), Makoto, Haru, and [Name] had absolutely zero time to put together any gifts, so mainly they just winged it. Rei bought a penguin boogie-board, Gou baked some cookies and sweets, Makoto bought a new pair of goggles, and Haru made a penguin key-chain out of wood and paint.
And [Name]? Well, she was so busy decorating Haru's house that she really didn't have time to get the birthday boy anything. As anyone would expect, she felt really bad about it and panicked just a tiny bit rushing through option after option in her brain for gift ideas.
When she went to check her watch, it was already 19:26 and Haru was standing in the doorway to his living room staring with a deadpan expression souring his facial muscles. [Name], upon receiving his silent invitation to get out of his house and let him sleep, gathered up all her belongings and scuttled out of the house, forgetting all about getting Nagisa a birthday gift.
After school, she bounded up to the taller blonde first year and thrust a hand-made card into his face, grinning from ear to ear.
"Happy Birthday, Nagisa!"
She said with a sing-song type of ring to her voice. He returned her smile with one of his own and popped open the pastel pink birthday card, half expecting a cutesy hand-written note from [Name] (maybe even a love confession?), but when in actuality he received a hastily scribbled message:
"Come to Haru's house after school, loser!"
Ah, well, he should have expected as much from the likes of that dense [h/c] second year.
Nagisa sighed and dropped his smile for a brief few seconds before it lit up his cheeks once more, he reached for one of her hands and cupped it with his - his fingers slid in between hers and tugged her towards the shoe lockers at the front of the school.
"You told me to go to Haru-chan's, so we're going!"
He laughed while towing her along behind him.
Upon arriving at the Little Mermaid's household, the vicinity was nearly pitch black, Nagisa called out to the blackness while [Name] seductively stroked the wall for a light switch. When her finger finally found and flicked the light switch, four bodies jumped out from behind various furniture and threw confetti in the air shouting: "Happy Birthday, Nagisa!".
Well, all except for Haru who was still more or less bitter about the party being at his house.
After the initial shock wore off, the blonde's smile returned and he jumped at all his friends, latching onto their shoulders and pulling them into a tight bear-hug while [Name] hung back by the light switch with a gentle grin - admiring her handy-work with a light heart.
Until she realized she had forgotten to get the little idiot a gift.
Oh God, what was she going to tell him?! She couldn't just say she didn't have a present for him, wouldn't it seem like she did it on purpose? Wouldn't it seem like she didn't like him? Of course she liked him, if she didn't she wouldn't have threw the party in the first place, but.
Luckily, presents weren't until after cake and sweets, so she had plenty of time to work through her apology and explanation through her brain. Gou brought out the cake that her and Makoto had made the previous night and slid it in front of the birthday boy. The sparkle in his eyes made [Name]'s heart squeeze tight in her chest as a smile formed her own lips. She pulled out her phone and waited to capture the moment when he blew out his candle.
The festivities were soon over and the dishes had to be taken into the kitchen, so Nagisa asked [Name] to help him with washing the plates. Well, of course she would say yes, who could say no to a cute bugger like Nagisa? The both of them trotted over to the kitchen with the stack of plates and silverware in tow when a question formed to [Name]'s lips.
"So, what did you wish for when you blew out the candle, Nagisa?"
She inquired while scrubbing at a fork with a kitchen sponge, a small smile adorning her lips.
"Ahh, I can't tell you, [Name]! Isn't it bad luck to tell someone your birthday wish?"
He teased, sending her a small wink her way.
"But, I could give you a hint, if you want."
A soft purr entered his voice then, his shoulder brushed up against hers as he slowly got closer and closer to her. [Name] barely had any time to process what was going on when his fingers traced the left side of her jaw to turn her face towards him, the pink irises of his eyes were nearly consumed in black pupils. Softly, his lips touched hers, his mischievous hand gliding down to the side of her neck and delving into her [h/c] hair.
More or less, she kissed him back - taking the front of his shirt into her fingers and sliding her eyes to a close. All she was really thinking, even though with Nagisa's lips on hers that was rather hard to accomplish, the whole time was: whose birthday is it, really?

"Ahh, I knew it!"
Gou whispered while peering around the corner into the kitchen where the two love birds were practically shoving their tongues down each others throats, though very gently by the looks of it. Beside her, the bespectacled Rei took out a few bills from his wallet and silently handed them to Haru, who slipped them into the back pocket of his trousers.
"It's just like out of a manga!"
She gushes while fanning herself.
"I told you he'd make a move on her today."
Haru mutters, taking his leave to soak in the bathtub for a few hours. Not like [Name] and Nagisa would notice if anyone went missing for a little while with the way they're sucking face like it was going out of style. Well, he'd have to admit, though, they did look good together.
